Life Is Not Easy

The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.

Nelson Mandela

Being honest, life isn’t easy all the time, and you shouldn’t expect it to be. It would be impossible to enjoy the happy parts of life if there weren’t hardships from time to time.

Nevertheless, this doesn’t make getting back up easier when you fall. Whenever you are struggling, here are some empowering thoughts to help you get back on track.

Mindset Is Your Greatest Weapon

If life were predictable it would cease to be life, and be without flavor.

Eleanor Roosevelt

When things go wrong in life, it can be easy to blame others, or your circumstances. But if you just sit there and blame away, nothing will ever change. The truth is, you are the one who has the power to change the situation that is going on in your life, even if it may not always feel like you do.

And no matter how physically weak you may feel, as long as you are mentally strong, you will be able to get through anything because you will know that you are able to.

This is why it is important to always keep your mind strong even when things get tough. This is because even if something is physically harming you, you can use your mental state to turn everything around. Not to mention that regardless of who you come in contact with, no one can ever take your thoughts from you and only you have access to them.

If you set your goals ridiculously high and it’s a failure, you will fail above everyone else’s success.

James Cameron

Just look at a man like David Goggins. He was over one hundred pounds overweight and not the slightest bit fit when he decided he wanted join the Navy. The recruiter laughed him out of his office because he didn’t believe that Goggins could lose the weight he needed to in order to qualify in time. But Goggins wanted to be in the military so badly, he began swimming before and after school, running to and from school, and cut his diet to nothing more than plain chicken and vegetables. And he did it. He lost every pound he needed to in order to join the Navy in time. And he did this all with the power of his mind.

Of course not everyone can be a strong as David Goggins, but if you start incorporating the below empowering thoughts into your life, you may be surprised at the mental strength you are able to muster when life knocks you down. And don’t be afraid to keep a few of these thoughts handy for those especially rough days.

“When someone tells me ‘no,’ it doesn’t mean I can’t do it, it simply means I can’t do it with them.”

Karen E. Quinones Miller

What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

You’ve probably heard this before, and it’s because it’s true. Whenever life is getting you down it’s important to remember that you are here and you are still alive. And no matter what you are facing right now, when you conquer it, it will only build you up and help you to become stronger.

So next time you fall, grit your teeth, remind yourself that you are alive, and that you can handle this. You are both physically and mentally strong and whatever you are dealing with now will only make you stronger than you were before.

“Always be yourself and have faith in yourself. Do not go out and look for a successful personality and try to duplicate it.”

Bruce Lee

Tough Times Won’t Last, But Tough People Will

All bad times will come to an end, no matter how dire the situation might look at some point. If you just keep reminding yourself that these conditions are only temporary and they too will pass. You as a person on the other hand, you are tough and will outlast these bad times. Whenever you find yourself in difficult situations, just remind yourself that you are tougher and are going to overcome what you are facing.

“You cannot be lonely if you like the person you’re alone with.”

Wayne Dyer

I am the Creator of my Own Success

We are influenced by our surroundings and circumstances, but at the same time we are the creators of our own success. Even if the circumstances are not ideal, you always have a choice of how you deal with them.

Successful people are able to create their own success by making the best out of every situation. It is especially important in this sense to look at what you can influence that might change your circumstances. Be proud of the small success you create and learn from the mistakes you make along the way.

“Don’t waste your energy trying to change opinions … do your thing, and don’t care if they like it.”

Tina Fey

Asking for Help is a Sign of Strength, not of Weakness

Whenever you are feeling down and don’t know how to get out of a situation, don’t be afraid to reach out and ask for help. People are social beings, which means that we actually enjoy helping others.

How many times have you helped someone and thought they were weak? Probably not that often. So why would people think you are weak when you ask for someone’s help? And besides, it is actually very powerful to know what your strengths are and to know where you still need help to improve in life.

So whenever you’re facing a difficult situation and you know you’re not able to tackle this problem by yourself, don’t hesitate to ask for help, because it shows that you know what you are capable of and in what areas you still need some help.

“The way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and get a record of successful experiences behind you.”

William Jennings Bryan

Failure is a Way to Improve Yourself

Don’t you hate it when you put your best effort into something and in the end, you still end up failing? Of course, failing is difficult, but it doesn’t define who you are. There’s nobody in the world that has lived life without failure. So instead of letting fear of failure get in the way of trying, embrace the failures you encounter in life and use them as moments where you learn.

Start with asking why you failed and what could be done in the future to make sure you don’t fail the same tasks twice. And if you look at failures that way, you will see that you rarely repeat mistakes and that the failures you do encounter, will propel you towards greater achievements.

“Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.”

Robert F. Kennedy

Believe in Yourself

It might look very straightforward, but a lot of people do forget to believe in themselves. Whether it is you talking yourself into applying for that dream job or not asking that cute person that has been staring at you in the coffeeshop for the past hour out for a date, this all boils down to you not believing in yourself. But when you do believe in yourself, you’ll see that acting on these things, instead of talking ourselves out of it, will lead to some wonderful experiences in life.

“If you feel inferior to someone else, it is because of your own beliefs.”

Catherine Pulsifer

When you do believe in yourself and you go out there and apply for that dream job, the next step is you need to keep believing in yourself in order to get the job. If you think you can do that job, then you probably can, because there’s no one in this world who knows you better than you. Or if you do ask that cute person on a date, you’ll find that just that little confidence of believing in yourself will do wonders in all aspects of your life.

Challenges Are Opportunities To Grow

Whenever you face a challenge in life, don’t think of it as a nuisance, think of it as an opportunity to grow as a person. Sure, the challenge might be tough and it might cost you some time and energy to overcome them but think of it as climbing a mountain. It’s hard, it’s difficult and sometimes it might be exhausting.

But when you finally make it to the top, you’ll have an amazing feeing of satisfaction. It will also give you an overview of the challenges you’ve overcome to reach that peak.

“The key to life is accepting challenges. Once someone stops doing this, he’s dead.”

Bette Davis

Challenges are the same way. When you’ve been able to overcome the challenge, you will most certainly feel amazing. And at the same time, you’ve grown as a person. The same challenge will be easier the next time and a bigger challenge will seem smaller than it did before you attempted the previous challenge.

Think Positive

Even the richest man in the universe could have himself believe that he lives a terrible life if he doesn’t think positively. By trying to think positive in every situation, you will find that you’ll encounter more and more positive situations. This might be difficult at first, so don’t go around and try and do it at the big things in life just yet. Start small.

Look at something in your life that you appreciate and let it be a starting point of thinking positive things. Start working your way op from there to bigger and bigger things in life that you appreciate, and before you know it, everything you meet along the way has something positive in store for you.

If you are positive, you’ll see opportunities instead of obstacles.

Widad Akrawi

Take Matters Into You Own Hands

Instead of letting life dictate what happens to you, make sure that you are in control of your life. If you’re always waiting patiently for life to improve, it’s most likely not going to happen. But if you go out there and try to improve life for yourself, you’ll see that you’re actually quite successful at it.

Opportunity does not knock, it presents itself when you beat down the door.

Kyle Chandler

Taking matters into your own hands could be as small as running that errand you’ve been dreading or as big as learning a new skill that will help you land the job you’ve always wanted. But if you’re going to sit around and wait for those things to happen, you’re most likely to stay in the same place you are in right now.

Celebrate Your Successes

It is very easy to forget all the amazing things we do on a daily basis. It is also very easy to look at all the things in life that didn’t work out as we had planned and talk ourselves down because of it. But it doesn’t need to be that way. Instead, ignore that things that went wrong and focus on celebrating your success. Start by celebrating something small that you’ve wanted to do and actually got done today.

Look at it for a moment and appreciate yourself for doing it. Then start celebrating larger and large achievements as you go. Before long, you’ll find yourself achieving something amazing!

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.

Albert Schweitzer

Control the Things You Can and Let Go of the Things You Can’t

It is impossible to control every aspect of life, and quite frankly, it would be incredibly tiresome to have to do so. An important part to overcoming a bad situation is understanding which parts of the situation you can control and which parts you can’t. Focus on the things you can control and try to improve those things.

The next step is letting go of all the things you can’t control. If you don’t let them, go, they’ll only be in the way of the things you’re trying to improve. Once you are able to take control of the things that you can, and let go of everything else, you will find yourself at an amazing spot in life making the things that you want happen in your life.

Free yourself from fruitlessly worrying about things you can’t control and put your energy towards the things you can. Seize the day and take effective action on things you can change.

Steve Maraboli

Trust the Process and the Choices You Make

If you’re trying to achieve something big, there’s always a possibility that you won’t make it in the end. Sometimes it’s because you did something wrong and you can learn from those mistakes. But other times it’s just bad luck.

Life is not always going to be fair and expecting that it is, will cost you a lot of energy. Instead of focusing on the results, try to focus on the process and the choices you made to achieve your goal. If you look back on it and you feel like you did everything right, then be happy with the process, even if the outcome wasn’t what you hoped for.

Treat this as a learning process, because if you follow the same process the next time, there’s a very good chance the outcome will be the same, but if you make small changes here and there you just might find yourself successful the next time around.

“We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.”

Rick Warren

Diamonds Are Made Under Pressure

Everybody likes those nice shiny stones we stick on our engagement rings. But did you know that if they weren’t under a lot of pressure, they would have just been ordinary coal? So if you feel you’re under a lot of pressure, just remind yourself that this pressure is turning you into something beautiful.

And don’t forget to remind yourself that all this pressure will eventually come to an end. While it seems bad now, taking a break or resting can help you to get back on top and to manage the pressure more efficiently.

The challenge is to stay cool enough to handle the pressure in the moment so that you can succeed in the future.

Jurgen Klopp

Don’t Be Afraid For What’s Ahead, But Be Excited

There is no way of telling what the future will hold, so there is no way for us to control it. We can only control how we react to it and with what mindset we will face this great unknown. It is easy to look at the future and fear all the possibilities and future mistakes we’re going to make, or whatever misfortune life is going to throw at us.

But there’s an equal chance of life throwing us great opportunities and amazing fortunes. So instead of fearing that there’s only negative things in the future, be excited for all the amazing things it can hold.

This additionally goes back to thinking positively, because if you think positively about the future, then the outcome will likely be positive. But if you think negatively, then that is likely what will happen.

Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.

Francesca Reigler

Dream Big

When you’re in a tough situation, it can help to imagine how you would like your life to look like. Don’t be afraid to dream big in these moments and strive for what you think is impossible. Because this will create a person that will be prepared for those impossible things and you will see that dreaming big will give you the opportunity to make the impossible, possible.

And don’t ever be afraid to dream big. And don’t let someone tell you that you shouldn’t. These are your dreams, your aspirations, and you can do anything you want with them.

“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”

Christopher Reeve

I am Strong

Just as you need to believe in yourself, the next time you are knocked down by a terrible situation, remind yourself that you are strong and that you can handle this. Even just saying it to yourself can really help you to feel more mentally strong. Remember the power of manifestation. You create the life you want. So if you want to be strong, start by thinking it, and the rest will follow.

“He who believes is strong; he who doubts is weak. Strong convictions precede great actions.”

Louisa May Alcott

I  Can Be Happy No Matter What

Many people think that happiness is something that life bestows on them if they are good and follow the rules. But this isn’t true at all. Happiness is a choice, and this means that you can choose to be happy in any circumstance—even if life currently has gotten you down.

For example, maybe you recently lost your job. Well, look at the Brightside, you can be happy as you search for the job of your dreams! Or maybe now is the time to create your own company. No matter what you decide, choose to be happy in your current circumstances even if they may seem bleak, and pretty soon, you will be feeling happy.

Happiness is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them.

Steve Maraboli

 I am Valuable

If an especially disheartening situation has come along, you might be sitting back on your heels and thinking that you have no worth in this life. But this simply isn’t true. Everyone on this earth has a value that is unique to them.

And if you aren’t feeling valuable, or the current situation has made you feel like you aren’t valuable, then it’s probably time to make changes to your life so you feel like you are valuable.

And remember, like anything else on this list, value is a mindset. So if you want to find situations that make you feel more valuable, then you need to remind yourself and think that you are valuable. Sometimes some self-care time can help you to be reminded of this as well.

“Know your worth, hold your own power, be you.”

Morgan Harper Nichols

The Past is NOT Me

Many people on this earth place value on themselves based on their past. But no matter what you’ve done in the past, that doesn’t matter anymore. All that matters is the person that you are today.

And if you spend too much time looking back at the past, you will never be able to move forward. So tell yourself that the past is not you and start looking towards the future you want to create for yourself instead.

And don’t forget, you can’t go back. So wishing you can change the past is a waste of time. But changing the future—that’s what you can do so start doing that today.

“You can’t let your past hold your future hostage.”

LL Cool J

Use My Words

This empowering thought may not apply for all circumstances but if you are involved in something that is making you unhappy, use your words to say so. Or, if you are in a situation that you can’t take any longer, use your words to change it. Even if you think you have nothing else in life, no one can take your words away from you. This means you always have a defense against everything that may come your way. And remembering that you always have something going for you can get you up in the bleakest situations.

“Your words have power. Speak words that are kind, loving, positive, uplifting, encouraging, and life-giving.”

I Am Always Learning

You weren’t born knowing everything, the truth is, no one is. This means that no matter what journey you may be on in life right now, you are learning as you go. This means that if you make mistakes, you can’t hold them against yourself because you are still just developing as a person.

And this process never stops. No matter how old or educated you may be, you are still learning. So whatever had affected your life to cause you to doubt yourself right now, brush it off, tell yourself that you are still learning and that you will have this situation mastered in no time at all.

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.”

Henry Ford

Now Is The Time

Sometimes people can be waiting for something to happen in their life. They are waiting for the perfect moment to make a change, start a new career, or maybe have a child. And although it may seem a bit weird, the next time something bad happens in your life, this needs to remind you that life is short and time is precious. This means it is now the time to do whatever it is you want to. You can rise above whatever is going on right now, make a change, and become the person you so desperately want to be.

Change your life today. Don’t gamble on the future, act now, without delay.

Simone de Beauvoir

Some Bridges Are Meant To Be Burned

Occasionally, you may be knocked over in life by a situation where you have to burn a bridge. Maybe you had to end a relationship or a friendship. This can be disheartening, but if the person was meant to be in your life, they would still be there. Because the bridge was burned, they weren’t meant to be in your life anyway. Now have room to a build a new and better bridge with someone who is supposed to be in your life and will support you in all that you do.

“Mend fences, build bridges, forgive trespasses, grieve losses and let toxic grudges go. Then move on.”

Unicahija Tamano

Everything Starts With Me

Again, there are times in your life where to may be sitting around and waiting for something to change so that you can find happiness. But the truth is, everything, every success, every accomplishment, it all starts with you. This means that you have the power to change your life at any given time no matter what is happening.

This thought is especially powerful for those times in life that you may feel like you can’t catch a break. Because these times will make you feel as if you are losing control. But you never lose control over your own life and your own mind. Everything that is happening in your life starts with you, and you have the power to change it around.

“Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have,”

Do What Needs To Be Done

And for the last empowering thought on the list, remember that not everything in life is going to be pleasant, and sometimes, you will need to do what needs to be done. Maybe you have just started your business, and it isn’t going well at all. Don’t give up, but maybe you need to restructure it or try something different. Or like in the above situation with bridges, maybe a certain employee isn’t working out anymore. Even though you don’t want to fire them, you may have to in order for your business to succeed.

And if you are sitting at home feeling depressed, and you know that going out would make you feel better, then you need to get dressed and go out. This is because you need to do what needs to be done to help you overcome what is going on in your life right now. Otherwise, nothing will ever change and you will still be sitting at home unhappy in a year.

Do what needs to be done, when it needs to be done the best way it can be done, and do it that way every time.
